Falling behind
Sometimes life moves faster than what you expect...
Have you ever found yourself lost? Felt like everything was going forward but not you? If that’s the case take a deep breath and relax, because we’re going to have a little chat.
We all know the different terms we’re given nowadays, procrastinators, low-attention span, unable to do things. And even ourselves use these terms to make jokes, try to have a quick talk with somone or for plain enterteinment but without realizing it, suddenly it has entered in our heads.
When a person archieves the mental position they’ve been working hard for, that person starts to grow and learn and enjoy everything surrounding them. However, even though that’s the objective for everyone, the process of getting success out of it is usually taken for granted. For a lot of people it’s just “work hard and be grateful” but without stepping to deep into research you can see the cracks of that motto, what about adults that already have a full-time job and can’t get any more free time? what about teenagers that after one day they are as depressed as when they started or even worse from not being able to get things done?
It doesn’t matter what the next influencer can say about how to be “that girl” or “hottie”, the thing that all of this needs, including us, is humanity. I may not be an expert and I might not be right in a lot of things but I can admit that even if one day I feel better, even if I don’t use my phone or if I’m able to write an entire text with hours of research behind, still, I am insecure. So it doesn’t matter the amount of eccentric scientific words that I can add in one sentence, the best solution to when you’re feeling down is just making peace with yourself.
By making peace I don’t mean acknowledge the problem and letting it slide, I mean sitting in a quiet place, taking a very big deep breath and a pen, and letting your thoughts wonder away in your fingertips. Don’t be scared of the sadness included in the paper or what could happen if the problem doesn’t leave, just be able to identify it and write it down.
If you’re capable of doing this, then I can guarantee that you’re already making progress and if nobody has told you yet, I’m proud of you. By just writing it down you’re already proving a sort of “supplement” for yourself to feel what you consider is best for you. Ideally, you could store your piece of written feelings and come back to it later in a few months to observe your possible progress, although everyone must remember that progress is slow.
Also, if you notice these downs in your activity or mental emotional strength I really recommend that you try to get in contact with an expert by going to therapy. There is no “best moment” to start looking after your mental health, even if you think you don’t need to, create a habit consisting of taking big breaths for relaxation, writing for mental clarity and slow down, yes, even if you feel like you are getting behind and everything is going forward.
Everyone goes at it’s own pace, and nobody knows truly the pace of other person so don’t stress if somebody seems to be doing better than others or doing things faster because that person isn’t you, and the best you can do is taking care of yourself and take that person as a source of inspiration not isolation.
If you have reached this point of the article, same as always I thank you for spending your time reading this and most sincerely hope that whatever is going on in your life, anything from a little disagreement with somone to a full mental breakdown coming from traumatic experiences doesn’t let you forget that you are not alone. Bad situations are often hard and might cost some time to get through but it is possible to get out of them and if not, at least make peace with them.

This last link goes to a youtube video from a girl named Beth who shares her experience on the feeling of not making the best of your time and how it impacts your mood, I recommend watching the first minutes of it for seeing that humanity is what makes you empathize with her and that it is a feeling completely valid.
